Two iced Cocoa Joe's drinks held against a wide blue-sky dale view in Nidderdale

41 HIGH STREET · PATELEY BRIDGE

Cocoa Joe's

Named the best hot chocolate in England by the Daily Mail. A tiny, legendary cafe that has built a national reputation from a shop on the High Street.

The best hot chocolate in England. Their words and ours.

Cocoa Joe's is not a chain and it is not a franchise. It is a small, independent cafe at 41 High Street that has quietly become one of the most talked-about stops in the whole of the Yorkshire Dales. The reason is simple: the hot chocolate is exceptional, and it is made properly.

Every cup is crafted from solid, single-origin chocolate shaved and melted to order. No powder. No shortcuts. The result is rich, smooth and genuinely different to anything you have had from a standard cafe. The Daily Mail named it the best hot chocolate in England. The Guinness World Records came to Pateley Bridge and so did BBC Countryfile, ITV and Channel 5. The 4.9-star rating on Google has been earned one cup at a time.

The menu runs from classic warm hot chocolate to chilled iced versions served in tall cups with paper straws, perfect for a sunny day in the dale. There are multiple vegan options: the chocolate drinks can be made with oat, almond or other plant milks, and the team are well used to the question.

The cafe is small and fills up quickly on weekends and summer days. It is worth arriving early, or accepting the queue as part of the occasion. Dogs are welcome outside and the team are friendly with walk-in visitors. Open Monday to Friday 10:30 to 4, Saturday and Sunday 10 to 5:30.
